Crossing over to the inside don't know what lies up ahead all my courage to close my eyes such strange figures 'round my bed all my money, all my things leave it all and not have sorrow goodbye real life, hello Dreamland don't know if I'll be back tomorrow crossing over to the inside don't know what lies up ahead goodbye real life, hello Dreamland don't know if I'll be back again

I can hear them laughing in the distance they're getting closer every instance it's not coincidence we find all the bones they leave behind The veil is wearing thin i think they're closing in feels like the end All we can do is run away they're catching up they're closing in they're catching up don't stop I can see the light reflecting on their eyes No time to wait, for heavens sake i see the gate, its not too late its almost dawn, the heavy weight is hanging on the words you say if Earthly bound has sealed our fate then through the sound we will escape All we can do is run away they're catching up they're closing in all we can do is run away So fast I've run so far it isn't fair to stay or for you to see me in this way i hate that it has come to this such is this life, a circle of despair I promise you, I promise you you'll get away, someday you'll be safe, but as for me I cannot say i cannot say is this it? is this it is this it for me is this the end? I will hold them off so you can escape, my friend

When I Leave 02:22
Don't fret it don't let it get you down to where you can't get up you've gotta see the reasons why I'm pretty sure you've got to drive yourself in circles just to get to where you want to be I've done it I've done it a lot, so many times I swear I know you won't believe (can't believe) Like I'm waving in slow motion you'll think you're staring straight at the ocean when I leave (is it real? is it really happening?) I've been talking a lot to god and I've been having awful dreams haven't found a cure and I cant tell you what it means but you need a break down to break free... but theres more to it than that you see. And I know I belong somewhere can't be invisible forever Don't fret it just let it take you higher than you're comfortable with being When I leave (when I leave) When I leave you're gonna miss me I'll be driving around in circles like a whirlpool in the sea

It can happen in the blink of an eye everything you know can pass you by in your mind you wonder while you struggle just to turn the lights on Nobody can tell you why make it up as you go, just keep on trying do it for yourself, cause everyone here is just living and dying it was all in a dream or is that what they just want me to believe? the flashbacks that are happening are different now than what we once perceived it was all in a dream or is that what you just want me to believe? everything i remember seems like yesterday and it feels so real to me I want to feel and watch the sunlight burn me in slow motion pierce my skin and relieve me of my constant sorrow is it hopeless? is it hopeless? is it hopeless if theres no tomorrow? it was all in a dream it can happen in the blink of an eye everything you love can pass you by in your heart you always cry as you struggle just to keep on walking anyone can tell you why but I wouldn't listen cause they might be lying figure it out for yourself cause everyone here is just living and dying

The way the words fit onto paper a rush of sense to come full circle make me feel what i've been waiting wanting peak of which i'm yearning bask in tithe amongst false prophets planted like the seed of altar find my truths like full moon facing coming to its rightful falter a thread around the stones you cast meaning sewn into the stars you'll run away, it'll come right back and follow you for sometime after bruise your lip while coaxed to laughter dreaming schemes to bring or hatch your cinnamon toothed egg of rapture a nightingale in your cattle pasture you can swivel with the waves and find solace in the visual snow but tell me is it accurate to say that you'll find peace in a future you don't know? sleep deprived to find some answer nipping at your calloused heels bleeding on the bed frame feelings interrupt your TV meals its not a matter of opinion people die 'bout every minute reasoning subject to change how politics would like to spin it ready or not the games not over and it may involve a bit of math add all sides to find wrong answers dividing us for sometimes after disappearing ink like casper keeping track of this disaster seemed to slip your mind no faster than a nightingale in your cattle pasture yeah you can stoke the flames or you can swallow every ember but is it accurate to say that there is evidence for anything in what you can't remember? in a tizzy, i've been makin moves as pointless as it seems to prove it isn't fair to me or you sometimes there is no chance to choose but we like to think its justified to be stuck inside our paths of life when in fact our right to change our minds, if unsatisfied, theres another side we're just passing by the best ideas we tend to have are burning like an acid bath awaiting to renew our paths and cleanse our souls forever after what we tend to fail to capture in the end we always master but until then we're stuck in castor like a nightingale in a cattle pasture you can dress yourself up pretty but still scare to death a sleeping cow but i think that its most accurate to say that times not moving anywhere, its just happening here now

Black Mamba 02:57
Deep into the forest we were uttering our mantras in the middle of the night so as to avoid the hellish sauna 'round the turkey mountain majesty in the flora and the fauna unwelcomely greeted by the territorial BLACK MAMBA lunged at by the snake i repel back into your face and in your partial drunkenness fell down to your twisted fate tumble down the hill breaking rocks along the way as you scream into the darkness as you're fracturing 6 vertebrae i reached out to you you grabbed my hand i pulled you out this twighlight path was never found again BLACK MAMBA

Sometimes life just might seem too real to feel sometimes things might get weird, its ok, you'll be fine just don't forget to breathe in deep, don't weep take control of your mind, decide to survive life can feel so fast life can feel so slow so if you feel like dyin quit your cryin Just ride it out, partner just ride it out slow just ride it out partner just ride it out say goodbye horses just ride it out if you want the truth you better saddle up its gonna be a bumpy ride we all know you do it won't be covered up as long as you keep riding towards the light yeah just ride it out partner just ride it out slow say goodbye horses just ride it out

Deteriorating in a fly-over state where the buffalo roam and the octopus hide in the lakes dreadful feelings of isolation a continuation of intention to escape I don't wanna be here anymore i'm so tired of beating this dead horse In Oklahoma Oklahoma Oklahoma Officials say its a terrible year, but to whom do we owe the displeasure of being here? in Oklahoma Oklahoma Oklahoma

Tornado 02:48
Ooh, ya know I love ya, honey but when I pass you by I'll be kickin up more dust than a jackelope in July and I never meant to hurt you darlin' never mean to make you cry I'm gonna pick ya up and spin ya darlin'... right up into the sky Ooh ya never saw me comin' and I can't say I blame ya I'll flip your whole world upside down like an Oklahoma tornado and you know I try to warn ya, darlin' but ya never trust the data you get blown away for nothin' and just blame it on al quaeda

Sometime I'd like to forget I've spent all these years so high I'd thought it'd erase all the shit but that was a bold faced lie the truth is a hard one to hit I handle it fine half the time the reasons escape for a bit until it all comes back to mind Nothin' is for certain other than the things that are its hard, so hard to determine between an old wound and a fresh scar I've been a tangled mess of chemical emotion-less carryin the weight of the things I can't process its sick, cruel, carelessness on my part a defense against the innocence of my heart sometimes I'd like to forget i spend all this time so low don't think that I've changed a bit I only got this to show Nothin last forever 'cept for the things that do and its such a fine line between all the shit I pull and all the shit I'm put through

Swine Song 03:11
I tried to pet the pig, she bit my hand and made me bleed chased me through the kitchen on her hooves and crooked teeth can't define the way I feel when you look straight through me just to see the world behind is burning off our feet you seem so happy go on and find your favorite way to twist the objects in a way that serve you on your fancy china plate and you filter out the sun to cast your shadows on the floor but is there any truth to the figures you create? I'm tired of the acrobatics causing all my mental static I'm mad as hell but tell me what else is new? I'm through So theres really nothing you can do apologies are way past due I've tried and tried and tried to make it through to you so i scream into the endless void and it returns a sense of comfort which is more than i can say you've ever done you must love it when i'm miserable but you claim my pain is minimal don't be surprised when you find out I'm invisible and you're never gonna find me now you're never gonna find me now you're never gonna find me now you're never gonna find me now its too far gone

If i had the time to make you mine, darlin' I would darlin' I would if i said I love you, would that be too much for you darlin' for you, darlin if i had the will to find the way to your heart i'd say....I'd say If I ain't settlin for you darlin, I'll be settlin the west ahhh if I ain't settlin for you darlin, I'll be settlin for less (x2) And i try to forget how lonely that i get without you here without ya here yeah I try to get along, but its hard when I once held you so dear and at night when I think about you, don't you know I shed a tear If I ain't settlin for you darlin, I'll be settlin the west ahhh if I ain't settlin for you darlin, I'll be settlin for less (x2) Now the thought of seein you around is just breakin me down breakin me down So now i've got to ramble on, get on, disappear out of town out of town If I ain't settlin for you darlin, I'll be settlin the west ahhh if I ain't settlin for you darlin, I'll be settlin for less (x2)

about

All songs written and recorded by Paul Steele.
Mastered by Mark Kuykendall at Wild Mt. Studios.
Album cover photo taken by Kara TIdwell, and edited by Jake Pittman and Paul Steele.

The concept for the lyrics to "Hello Dreamland" was an idea that James Westley asked me to write about. He said it should be about "a man who can no longer differentiate his reality from a dream" and i loved it and ran with it. Here is a link to his music: soundcloud.com/landward/sets/compilation-thedeadinschool

The title track "Living And Dying" features Christian Gottschalk on guitar. Christian wrote this guitar song many years ago and was generous enough to allow me to collaborate to it. He has featured on numerous other songs of mine as well, and I can't thank him enough for blessing me with his beautiful work and friendship.

"Tornado" features an abstracted collage of violin by Lindsey Kuykendall, recorded by her husband Mark Kuykendall, who also did the mastering on these songs for me. Thank you guys so much for working with me on this album, it's been a pleasure, and it came out so great.

"Fallin' Off The High Horse" features accompanied vocals by Kara Tidwell. Kara also took the picture for this album cover in northern Oklahoma. This was the last pic we took before the buffalo started eyeing us and we left.

The back cover of the physical album (not pictured here) is a photograph taken by Hope Garthwait at the same location with the buffalo in northern Oklahoma.

Thank you all so much, I love you <3
